Find Peace of
Mind in Focus
Unfortunately in this life, we
can't do everything. But, if you are like one of the many aggressive
business owners out there, you're pretty sure that you'll die
trying.
Business owners are devoted to
growing their businesses and struggling to maintain sanity
in the process. And while each business owner's decisions and
struggles are unique, there is often a common cord that binds
them. This cord is one of frustration that results from providing
many services/products to many people with much competition.
They are working very hard and not seeing their efforts pay
off.
Call it human nature, but when
business is tough, we automatically think that what we are
offering or not offering is the problem. We think that we should
add a new program, service, or product. We realize that we
cannot be everything to everyone, but maybe this new service
will be exactly what we need. And, while we know that we have
some practices, techniques, or products that are costing us
too much time and money, we continue to do them out of financial
fear.
But this solution will, most
often, turn out to be the problem: when you go in too many
directions, your efforts on each are minimized, resulting in
accomplishing none of the goals you had initially set forth.
Furthermore, this process of running hard leaves you both exhausted
and frustrated as your goals become less clear and farther
away.
As you are running, you are continuously
shaking the competition off your heals. Business owners typically
know which areas they excel in and why customers/clients should
come to them versus the competition. But in the stressed, busy
flow of work, they have neglected to communicate this to their
target market. There is too much work, too many tasks, and
too little time. As a result, marketing efforts become blurry
and ineffective.
Take a breath and find peace
of mind in focus. A concentrated and defined focus on your
product/service, your daily activity, and your marketing communications
will allow you both the time and energy needed to grow your
business and reach your goals. First, specifically define what
you do best, what is the most profitable, and what sets you
apart from the competition. Make sure that your every activity
and marketing communication is in line with this. You can work
smart knowing you are on the right path. Time is precious,
but remember that any time spent on determining your focus
will determine your future....
